Notre Dome Cathedral

I travelled to Paris in March of 2006. Notre Dome Cathedral had been one of many places and works of art on my list to see in Paris. My husband, Gary, and I took one day to see the cathedral. Massive in stature, we couldn’t imagine or fathom how it was built in 1100a.d. using only manual labor.

Gary and I walked up to the main entrance to see the two bell towers and the massive rose window in between. The blue glass in these windows is irreplaceable and cannot be reproduced even with todays technology. Each individual section tells a bible story as they needed the visuals to interpret for those who could not read.

We climbed up stairs and suddenly we were eye to eye with the gargoyles and level with the base of the spire!

Navigating the tourist pathways, we found our way to the bell towers. This was also a way we could get some good exercise in, climbing up and down the stairs. The monolithic bells were preparing to ring so we quickly made our way back down!

The entire building and everything inside were individual works of art made of stone, carved wood and bronze all created by hand. OH and the flying buttresses!!!! Simply amazing!!!

My heart is broken over the fire on April 14, 2019. But, I am so thankful for the artifacts that were salvaged. It was magnificent!
